FAQs

Cosmetic tattooing, or permanent cosmetic makeup, achieves lasting results by applying pigments through specialized tattooing techniques. This non-surgical procedure enhances eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips, depositing colored pigments into the skin’s dermal layer through microscopic injections. Modern tools, including a state-of-the-art machine with a one-time-use cartridge system or a hand tool with sterile disposable needles, create the illusion of natural hair strokes or makeup. Known as micropigmentation, intradermal cosmetics, dermal implantation, or dermagraphix, this process blends traditional and contemporary methods for a personalized outcome. Permanent makeup enhances facial features, employing a fusion of ancient practices and modern techniques to ensure a safe, enduring enhancement of your eyebrows, eyes, and lips, simplifying your daily beauty routine.

Whenever color is implanted into the dermis, regardless of the technique, it constitutes a form of tattoo. While different methods and pigments are employed, permanent cosmetics procedures are deemed permanent because the pigment is tattooed into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer, resisting washing off. However, like any tattoo, fading is possible, necessitating periodic maintenance known as enhancement, touch-up, color boost, or color refresher. This fading process is akin to tinted hair color or furniture exposed to sunlight, requiring occasional touch-ups. This maintenance also offers a chance to reassess color and design preferences.

You will notice a nice healthy glow and a plumpness to the skin immediately following treatment, however the natural healing process can take sometime, up to 4-6 weeks in some cases. You may require a course of facials to see great improvement, this will depend on particular skin concerns and treatment required to get the very best results. Your therapist will guide you through treatment protocol during the consultation process.

  1. The process typically begins with a consultation between the client and the brow/lip/eyeliner artist. During this consultation, the client discusses their desired brow/lip/eyeliner shape, size, and color with the artist. The artist may also assess the client’s facial features and suggest a suitable ideal look.
  2. Before each session begins, the brow/lip/eyeliner area is cleansed and numbing cream may be applied to minimize discomfort during the process. Different types of numbing creams are applied once before the session begins and once during to ensure clients comfort.
  3. The brow artist uses various techniques, such as measuring and marking, to map out the desired shape and symmetry of the brows/lips/eyeliner. The artist uses 3 different tools to perfectly map out the desired area and ensure symmetry. This step ensures that the final result is tailored to the client’s facial structure and preferences. The next step is to shape the area using a pencil to further elaborate and precisely draw the shape, size, thickness and length. The session will progress once the client is 100% happy with the look.
  4. Using a handheld tool, such as a manual shading device or a tattoo machine with a fine needle, the artist meticulously applies pigment to the brow/lips/eyeliner area. The pigment is gradually built up to create a soft, gradient effect that resembles the look of makeup.
  5. After the procedure, the brows/lips/eyeliner may appear darker than desired due to initial swelling and pigment saturation. Over the next few days, the pigment will gradually lighten as the skin heals, revealing the final result.
  6. A follow-up appointment may be scheduled for a touch-up session, during which the artist can make any necessary adjustments and ensure that the brows/lips/eyeliner has heal evenly.

After the procedure, you may notice a slight white residue from the numbing gel, which typically disappears within 15 to 30 minutes. Initially, eyebrows and eyeliner may appear darker, while lip colors can seem more intense. The color will lighten over the next few weeks. Most people can resume their daily routines, with mild swelling, redness, or tenderness lasting a few hours to a few days (eyebrows swell less than eyes and lips). Slight bruising may occur immediately after lip and eye procedures. Adhering to post-care instructions is crucial for proper healing. Around 6-8 weeks later, you’ll have an enhancement session where color and design adjustments can be made. This session is vital and necessary before considering the procedure complete.

You are not an ideal candidate for permanent cosmetic procedures if: under 18 years of age sick (cold, flu, etc) undergoing chemotherapy have an organ transplant have a history of trichotillomania if you have undergone chemotherapy treatment, it’s recommended you wait 4 months after your last session before any tattooing can be performed. skin irritations on or near the treated area (psoriasis, rashes, sunburn, acne, eczema, rosacea, active cold sores etc,) moles or other skin imperfections in or around the area of the procedure. we will not be able to go through with the procedure until the area of concern is clear or the mole is removed and healed. if you are pregnant or nursing – although there is no medical evidence that a cosmetic tattoo would have any effect on an unborn child we don’t know for sure. we suggest you err on the side of caution and schedule an appointment after the baby is born and you are no longer nursing. these are some of the reasons why: when you’re pregnant you have higher chances of fainting. if you were to get an infection, you would have to worry about your baby as well. your hormones can cause hyper-pigmentation, among other skin conditions. your skin may become more sensitive, which means avoidable excess pain. your immune system is lowered, meaning it can take longer to heal. if during a tattoo you experience excessive pain or stress and your body goes into shock, you risk going into early labor or even a spontaneous miscarriage. if you have used accutane within the past year, steroids within the past 6 months, within the past month. accutane, cortisone, renova, topical steroids, all thin the skin. depending on the stage your skin is at, it may be too fragile to undergo a cosmetic tattoo procedure. you should get clearance from your doctor before considering the procedure. if you are on anticoagulants (blood thinners) long term use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and even some herbs can reduce clotting time resulting in increased bleeding and bruising, which would affect the implantation of pigment as well as increase the healing time. allergies to makeup, dyes, or pigments – it is advisable to come in for a small patch test if you are taking prescription strength medications or treatments that affect the dermal layer of the skin. if you have an autoimmune disease. you should get clearance from your doctor before considering a permanent cosmetics makeup procedure. if you have epilepsy, diabetes, hemophilia or heart disease, you must have a physician’s approval prior to any procedure. diabetes – if you are insulin dependent, you are not a candidate for permanent cosmetics. healing could be compromised and take longer than average. otherwise, if your doctor feels your condition is under control you may request a letter stating that you are able to undergo permanent makeup. have hepatitis, hiv or any other viral infections or diseases glaucoma – you may not have eyeliner. increased intraocular pressure combined with pressure placed on the eye to apply eyeliner could be damaging. it is important to have this condition under control and/or refer to your physician for further consent to the application of eyeliner. blood disorders – that affect clotting such as hemophilia, sickle cell anemia or platelet disorders could interfere with implantation of pigment, however it is possible to receive successful implantation of permanent cosmetics. mitral valve prolapse, artificial heart valves or artificial joints – or any person that requires prophylactic antibiotics before dental or other procedures will need ro consult their physician for treatment prior to permanent cosmetics. have a pacemaker or any other heart conditions – uncontrolled high blood pressure and poor general health would be special concern, you will need to see your physician and discuss the procedure to gain pre-approval. keloids or hypertrophic scarring – anyone with tendencies for this type of scarring have the same risk with permanent cosmetics as well. we may decide to do a patch test to insure that you do not scar in this manor. iron deficient or anemic – may require more frequent touch ups smokers – pigment will fade sooner. maybe require more frequent touch ups if you have any medical issues that you feel might be a contraindication then we suggest you get clearance from your doctor. you know the state of your health better than anyone. if you have any concerns or are unsure as to whether you may be prevented from undergoing a permanent cosmetic makeup procedure, please don’t hesitate .

We apply numbing cream before an during your session which will ensure that your eyebrow/eyes & lips are numbed during the whole process. However, pain thresholds differ from person to person; but we will make every effort to keep you as comfortable as possible.

The healing time is generally brief for all treatments, typically up to 10 days. A small percentage of individuals may experience slight swelling, itchiness, and tenderness in the days following the treatment, but regular activities can resume immediately. For lip liner + blend and full lip procedures, swelling may last up to 48 hours or slightly longer. The lips may feel dry, and some mature age clients might experience sore and rough lips for about 7 days. It’s important to note that lip-related treatments cannot be performed on individuals with dental braces.

Choosing permanent cosmetic colors involves selecting shades that complement a person’s skin tone, hair, and eye color. A conservative approach is advisable, as it’s easier to darken an existing color than to lighten it. Colors tend to appear darker and more intense right after a procedure, gradually lightening and softening as they heal.

Microblading is a manual technique using a handheld tool and Nano uses a PMU machine and needle cartridge. Both techniques are very similar looking as they re done using a stroking motion with shadings in the middle as we go.

Microblading is compatible with dry to normal skin and Nano is more compatible with all skin types including combo and oily skin.

Microblading usually lasts up to 1-2 years after first touch up, while Nano Brows lasts 2-4 years after first touch up.

Microblading implants pigment slightly deeper which can cause pinpoint bleeding, however If done properly, should not create any scarring. Nano brows are less invasive and have better retention over time with less trauma for the skin.

Microblading creates thinner sharper lines and Nano brows allows more artistic freedom in stroke thickness manipulation, creating a more realistic natural look.

We offer these techniques along with powder shading or combinations of hairstrokes and shading and our recommendations will vary depending on your skin type, daily makeup routine, and desired outcome.
